Why Choose Us?

The surgeons at Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania are board-certified and fellowship trained in a cornea specialty. In fact, our physicians are considered to be the very best LASIK surgeons in Pennsylvania. Together, our surgical team has amassed nearly 50 years of collective experience.

About the LASIK Procedure

The surgeons prefer to use a very technologically advanced form of LASIK called bladeless custom LASIK to correct vision. This is the only LASIK procedure used by the Navy, Air Force and NASA for vision correction.

Bladeless LASIK is called “all-laser” LASIK; it uses two different lasers for safe, effective vision correction. First, a femtosecond laser creates a flap in the cornea. Next, an excimer laser reshapes the cornea to correct refractive error, thus improving vision. A cornea is a fingerprint; each one is unique. Therefore, our surgeons create a customized corneal map that is unique to every eye. This map guides the surgeon during the LASIK procedure.

Our surgeons prefer this method over older LASIK techniques that use metal surgical blades. Bladeless LASIK has less risk because we use a precise laser rather than a surgical blade to create a thin corneal flap. This gives the surgeon more ability to stabilize the cornea for reshaping. We prefer bladeless LASIK because we are able to correct higher refractive error with the technique. The procedure is safe, quick and pain-free, and we can even treat both eyes in the same surgery. The LASIK procedure is also extremely effective; in a recent published study, clinical results showed tremendous long-term vision stability and safety.

The surgery lasts 30 minutes. We first numb the eyes with anesthetic drops. Once back at home, rest your eyes for the remainder of that day, try to sleep as much as you can. and use the eye drops we send you home with. Some patients experience minor irritation, dry eye, itching or light sensitivity shortly after surgery. We will see you back in the office 48 hours later for a follow-up appointment to check your healing progress.

Am I A Candidate for LASIK?

Most patients are good candidates for the LASIK procedure. At your initial consultation, our professional staff will perform a comprehensive eye evaluation to determine pupil size, corneal thickness and refractive error to determine whether you are a good candidate for the surgical procedure. If you are not a good LASIK candidate, our surgeons will give you additional options for vision correction.
