Why Choose Us?

The Eye Consultants surgeons are board-certified and fellowship trained in a cornea specialty. They are considered to be among the very best LASIK surgeons in Pennsylvania. Together, our surgical team has amassed nearly 50 years of collective experience.

About the LASIK Technique

The surgeons prefer to use a very technologically advanced form of LASIK called bladeless custom LASIK to correct vision. This is the only LASIK procedure used by the Navy, Air Force and NASA for vision correction.

Bladeless LASIK is called “all-laser” LASIK. It uses two different lasers for safe, effective vision correction. First, a femtosecond laser creates a flap in the cornea. Next, an excimer laser reshapes the cornea to correct refractive error, thus improving vision. A cornea is like a fingerprint; each one is unique. Therefore, our surgeons create a customized corneal map that is unique to every eye; this map guides the surgeon during the LASIK procedure.

The technologically advanced bladeless Custom LASIK procedure is preferred over the older LASIK techniques that use metal surgical blades. The bladeless technique ensures a lower risk because a metal blade is not used on the eye surface. Bladeless LASIK allows surgeons to create a thinner corneal flap that is also more precise, giving the surgeon greater ability to stabilize the cornea. With bladeless LASIK, surgeons can correct higher refractive error and can treat both eyes in the same surgery.

Bladeless Custom LASIK is safe and the procedure is quick and painless, which is a surprise to most patients who have braced themselves for a long, somewhat painful procedure.

First, your eyes are numbed with anesthesia. The surgery lasts about 30 minutes, during which patients do not feel any pain. You will get more eye drops before going home. Once you do get home, the surgeon asks that you rest your eyes for the remainder of the day. Immediately after the surgery, many patients experience minor irritation, dry eye, itching or light sensitivity, so we send you home with eye drops. Most patients try to sleep as much as possible. We require you to come back in 48 hours later for a follow-up visit to ensure that your eyes are healing properly.

Am I a Candidate?

Most patients are good LASIK candidates, but not everyone will be a candidate. At the initial consultation, our professional staff will perform a comprehensive eye evaluation to determine pupil size, corneal thickness and refractive error to determine whether you are a good candidate for the surgical procedure. If you are not a good LASIK candidate, our surgeons will explain why and will also give you additional options for vision correction.

If you are in Pennsylvania and have thought about having a LASIK procedure, give us a call at 610-378-8500. Your initial consultation at Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania is free, so come in today to determine if the revolutionary Bladeless LASIK procedure is right for you.
